Personal Style

“How would you describe your style?” is a question that I am frequently asked and I can say with confidence “it depends how I’m feeling on that day.”

Although dressing for the moment is true to an extent, I feel it is important to know what your personal style is because fashion is an expression of self. It represents who you are, your identity, your creativity, your personality, and your essence. Your style introduces you without words. People get a glimmer of who you are and how you may be prior to getting to know you on a more personal level.

In world where Instagram has become the first stop for style ‘inspiration’ it’s important that we don’t lose our sense of self by mimicking others. Imitation is not always a form of flattery. To me it insinuates insecurity and laziness. It’s reasonable to be inspired by someone else’s work, especially if said body of work is seen as successful; however, be sure to make it true to you and not an exact replica. There’s only one you, so don’t waste it trying to be or look like someone else. Remember it’s called personal style for a reason. How would you describe yours?
